35. What Have They Seen in Thine House?

1 Death and destruction were hovering near,
Filling thy heart with unrest and fear;
God had respect to thy earnest plea,
Graciously lengthened thy life for thee;
Princes were sent from the rising sun
Just to behold what the Lord had done.

Refrain:
Hearken, my soul!
Hearken, my soul!
“What have then seen in thine house?
“What have then seen in thine house?
Didst thou reveal how the Saviour can heal,
And make a man whole in body and soul?
“What have then seen in thine house?

2 Soul, unto thee wondrous love has been shown;
Manifold blessings thou, too, hast known;
Healings of body, and heart, and soul,—
Often thy Saviour has made thee whole.
Did the Lord send from a distant shore
Souls that were wounded, and bruised, and sore? [Refrain]

3 Oh, didst thou show, in thy self-centered pride,
Earthly possessions, and naught beside?
Never once pointing to Him who gave?
Him who alone has the power to save?
Never revealing by look or word,
Almighty God about whom they’d heard. [Refrain]
