142. One Thing Needful

1 Earthly cares are all thy thought;
Fleeting pleasure thou hast sought;
Satisfy thee they cannot,—
The one think needful is forgot.

2 Do not waste on trifling cares
Life which God so kindly spares;
While in all the range of thought
The one think needful is forgot.

3 God is calling from on high;
Days are swiftly passing by;
Earthly joys, O trust them not!
The one think needful is forgot.

4 Do not grieve your Lord away;
See, He waiting stands today;
Come, accept Him as you ought;—
The one think needful is forgot.

5 Long have you withstood His grace,
Long provoked Him to His face;
Yet He loves you, wondrous thought!—
The one think needful is forgot.
