The shades of night will hide me,
If to Thy home of peace and rest
Thy Spirit doth not guide me.
Abide with me, Thou Light of life,
Drive from my soul all sin and strife,
All fear of death forever.

That like a palm I flourish,
Thou art the Vine, and I, at best,
The branch Thy strength doth nourish.
O Vine from Eden's balmy shore,
My peace and strength Thou dost restore;
I cannot live without Thee.

Thro' all my earthly danger.
My weary soul can find no rest,
I am on earth a stranger.
Oh, save Thou me from Satan's pow'r,
Be with me till my latest hour
And like a Shepherd lead me.

When night grows dark and somber;
I know if Thou wilt be my Guest
That I in peace shall slumber.

And tell me at my passing breath:
