676 | The Hymnal, Revised and Enlarged, as adopted by the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America in the year of our Lord 1892#677a | 677b |
Text: | As when the weary traveller gains |
Author: | Rev. J. Newton |
Tune: | [As when the weary traveller gains] |
Composer: | Beethoven |
1 As, when the weary traveller gains
The height of some commanding hill,
His heart revives, if o'er the plains
He eyes his home, tho' distant still;
2 Thus when the Christian pilgrim views
By faith his mansion in the skies,
The sight his fainting strength renews,
And wings his speed to reach the prize.
3 The thought of heaven his spirit cheers;
No more he grieves for troubles past;
Nor any future trial fears,
So he may safe arrive at last.
4 Jesus, on Thee our hopes we stay,
To lead us on to Thine abode;
Assured Thy love will far o'erpay
The hardest labors of the road.
Amen.
