| Text: | The Eternal Rock |
| Tune: | [When wildly beat the storms of life] |
| Composer: | Geo. C. Hugg |
1 When wildly beat the storms of life,
And heavy is the chast’ning rod,
The soul beyond the waves of strife,
Views the Eternal Rock, her God.
Refrain:
“Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;”
My spirit rests in holy calm,
The Rock doth shelter me.
2 What hope dispels the spirit’s gloom,
When sinking ‘neath affliction’s shock?
Faith, thro’ the vista of the tomb,
Points to the everlasting Rock. [Refrain]
3 Hope, Grace, and Truth, with gentle hand,
Shall lead a bleeding Saviour’s flock,
And show them, in the promised land,
The shelter of th’Eternal Rock. [Refrain]
