181. To stand like trees within a wood

1 To stand like trees within a wood,
All reaching up to God,
Each yielding to the other's good,
Roots clasping 'neath the sod;
When stormy blasts bend low the boughs
And icy tempests grip,
Each lending other some support:
Lo, here is fellowship!

2 To give as do in waving field
The spears of golden grain,
When buried seeds in bounteous yield
Respond to sun and rain
Till harvest garners them for bread:
'Tis fellowship indeed
When fruiting blades unite to fill
World granaries of need!

3 To grow like flowers by wayside paths
Whose vibrant hues express
In one united symphony
Their utter selflessness.
Uplifting fragrant cups of praise
While bees their nectar sip:
The blessedness of harmony:
Lo, this is fellowship!
