Text: | On Baptism |
1 Planted together as we read,
In likeness of his death,
I think we must be all agreed,
That sprink'ling's something less.
2 Primitive practice also shows,
They to the water came,
Philip doth with the Eunuch go,
Down in and up again.
3 We do not find a bason sent,
To bring the water near;
No, Christ our lord to Jordan went,
And was baptised there.
4 And Noah's Ark doth also show,
As Peter views the thing,
The way and mode that we should go,
To be baptised in.
5 Both men and women were baptis;d,
By scripture we are shown;
But not a child of infant size,
No, not so much as one.
6 And faith is also called for,
Before this act is done,
Read Philip and the Eunuch when,
They to the water come.
