48. Motherland

1 O Motherland! whose ample breast
Sustains the down-trod and oppressed
The wide world ‘round,
Thy glories with full voice we sing,
Our homage with true heart we bring,
And love profound.

2 Should foreign foe thy shores invade,
Be strong the arm and keen the blade
In thy defence.
Nor falter till the alien band,
That dares to raise assailing hand,
Be driven hence.

3 And may thy sons and daughters still,
With loyal heart and steadfast will,
The Right maintain;
Keep Justice ever to the fore,
And guard thine Honor evermore
From every stain.

4 Thus, heart to heart and eye to eye,
The Stars and Stripes above us high,
We’ll firmly stand;
And God His blessing down will pour
On all thy homes, from shore to shore,
Dear Motherland!
