| Text: | Almighty God, Our Lord on Heaven's Throne |
| Author: | Hans Buchel |
| Versifier: | John D. Martin |
1 Almighty God, our Lord, on heaven's throne,
Hear Thou our plea thru Thy beloved Son;
ON slipp'ry ice Thy people here must stand
With enemies surrounding them on ev'ry hand.
2 Three foes against us have been daily hurled;
Our trech'rous flesh, the devil, and the world.
O God! Grant help and keep us in Thy care;
Lest on this ice our feet should slip, Lord hear our prayer.
3 These foes we have renounced, though sorely tried,
And on Thy mercy, God, have we relied.
Help us to overcome them by Thy Word;
Let us not fall beneath the enemy's dread sword.
4 Those who would lure us back to worldly ease
Like lions stalk us, swearing our demise;
Though wounded cruelly, still we soldier on;
Our God will heal us, and the vict'ry shall be won.
Amen.
