Text: | Missionary Battle Song |
Author: | Thomas H. Nelson |
Tune: | [God speed the day when thousands shall arise] |
Composer: | Fannie Birdsall |
1 God speed the day when thousands shall arise,
And in the strength which Christ alone supplies;
Haste to the land where superstition reigns,
And on those countless millions press the Savior’s claims.
Chorus:
We’re working, we’re praying, with gospel flag unfurled
Till Christ shall reign in triumph o’er the whole wide world.
2 To heathen lands where sin’s black chariot rolls,
Where daily die one hundred thousand souls;
Bear precious seed, bedewed by sacred tears,
And preach the coming kingdom till our Lord appears. [Chorus]
3 O’er China’s plains and India’s coral strand,
Thro’ Afric’s swamps and Turkey’s blood-stained land,
We’ll gladly bear Immanuel’s flag unfurled,
And preach the love of Christ our Savior all ‘round the world. [Chorus]
4 Think of the shame and suf’ring which they bear,
And in their loss have you and I no share?
God’s word is plain, His will is now displayed,
The dying groans of millions from a call for aid. [Chorus]
5 Magic divine! the gospel bugle blast
Transforms the priests to blest iconoclasts;
Nations are born to Jesus in a day,
And all the world in gladness own His righteous sway. [Chorus]
