42. The Shepherd's call

1 Hark! the gentle Shepherd now is calling,
Calling to each tender lamb,
On my ear his accents kind are falling,
Yes, he even speaks my name.

Yes, poor wand'ring one, I long have sought thee,
And with precious blood have dearly bought thee,
Follow me where e'er I lead,
And thou ne'er shalt suffer need.

2 From the bright, the blessed fields of glory,
Ne'er by hurtful creature crossed,
Over mountains rugged, rough and thorny
I come forth to seek the lost.
