1 Can you do without the Saviour,
Tend’rer far than human friend?
When this poor, weak frame with anguish
Direst pain and sorrow rend?

Refrain:
Can you, can you do without him?
Shall you not his pity need?
Trembling sinner, can you, can you
Do without this Friend indeed?

2 Can you do without the Saviour
When the last loud trump shall sound?
When th’entombed millions gather,
And the judgment seat surround? [Refrain]

3 Can you do without the Saviour,
With the elements aflame?
When the voice of God like thunder
Shall in wrath pronounce your name? [Refrain]
