23. He makes his sun to rise

1 Gentle ray of sunlight, gleaming
From the portals of the sky,
With celestial glory beaming,
Full of light, and life, and joy;
Gilding every hill and mountain,
Smiling on their rugged side,
Cheering every crystal fountain,
While its sparkling water glide;

2 Tell me, is it not thy mission
On life's daily path to shine?
To give man a feeble vision,
Of those heavenly rays divine?
Thine to soothe the sick man's pillow,
And to light the poor man's day,
Thine to cheer time's fleeting billow,
As it bears us on our way.
