98. O Wanderer, come Home

1 Out in the darkness and gloom of night,
Weary and faint and cold;
The Shepherd is seeking the lost astray
Far from the shelt’ring fold.
Over the mountains thro’ deserts wild,
Thro’ torrents that rush and roar,
He carries it gently with loving arms,
Back to the fold once more.

Refrain:
O wand’rer, come home,
O come and no longer roam;
The Saviour is tenderly calling, calling,
O wand’rer, come home, come home.

2 Thus came the Saviour from heav’n to earth,
Lonely the path He trod,
To rescue His sheep that had gone astray,
Far from the fold of God.
Lonely He traversed the desert wild,
Seeking the lost to save;
To ransom the world from the pow’r of sin,
Truly His life He gave. [Refrain]

3 Out on the mountains of doubt and sin,
Dark is the night and cold;
But brightly a light that will ne’er grow dim,
Shines from the heavn’ly fold.
Shelter and comfort and rest are there—
Rest in a home of love;
The Saviour is waiting to welcome you
Into the fold above. [Refrain]
