16. Keep Your Eyes Upon the Cross

1 When you are discouraged and don’t know what to do,
When your purse is empty and your friends are few,
Listen to the secret that I will give to you—
Keep your eyes upon the cross:

Refrain:
Upon the cross, the cross of Calvary,
There is comfort found for you and me;
There is hope for the future, as you will see,
If you keep your eyes upon the cross.

2 When your doubts are many and they are sure to come,
When you’re sorely tempted from the path to roam,
Don’t forget that Jesus has promised you a home,
Keep your eyes upon the cross: [Refrain]

3 When you see your loved ones within the silent grave,
That’s the time, if ever, Christians should be brave;
In the hand of Jesus its key the Father gave—
Keep your eyes upon the cross: [Refrain]

4 When the silent reaper approaches gray and grim,
When your heart is failing and your sight is dim,
Then remember Jesus will take you home to Him,
Keep your eyes upon the cross: [Refrain]
