124. Take Thou My Hand

[1] Take Thou my hand and lead me, I Thee implore, Until my life is ended, And evermore. Alone, I cannot journey, Each step needs Thee. Where Thou would'st go and journey, There take Thou me. [2] Be Thou my light to guide me, Yah, as I go; For Thou alone canst banish All care and woe. If faithfully I follow The narrow way, Thou surely wilt me strengthen From day to day. [3] When passion and temptation Would threaten me, And in life's burning desert, I'd flee from Thee, To me, Yahweh, be faithful, And me pursue; Quench all my thirst for pleasure From day to day. [4] Let Thy compassion shelter My feeble heart; Make Thou me ever patient In joy or smart. Thy humble child, O Savior, With Thee let rest; Mine eyes see at their closing, Whate'er is best. [5] Tho' I cannot perceive Thee In all Thy might, Thou to the goal wilt lead me, Tho' dark the night. Take Thou my hand and lead me, I Thee implore, Until my life is ended, And evermore.
