CXXXV. Praise the LORD with one Consent

1 Praise the LORD with one Consent,
Magnify his holy Name;
Let the Servants of the LORD
Still his worthy Praise proclaim.

2 Praise him, ye that in his House,
Wait with never-ceasing Care;
Praise him, ye that to his Courts
With religious Zeal repair.

3 This our truest Int'rest is
Joyful Hymns of Praise to sing;
With loud Songs to bless his Name,
Is a most delightful Thing.

4 GOD his own peculiar Choice
Doth the Sons of Jacob make;
Israel's num'rous Offspring too,
For his Treasure he doth take.

5 That he's great, we often have
By our glad Experience found;
We have seen that he with Pow'r,
Far above all Gods, is crown'd.

6 For with unresisted Strength,
He performs his sov'reign Will;
Thro' Heav'n, Earth, and the Stores
Which the deepest Caverns fill.

7 Vapours from the Ground he lifts,
Which, though poiz'd in liquid Air,
Fall at last in Show'rs through which
His tremendous Lightnings glare.

8 From his Stores he brings the Wind;
And with his avenging Hand,
Smote at once, of Man and Beast,
The First-born through Egypt's Land.

9 He dread Signs and Wonders shew'd,
Throughout stubborn Egypt's Coast;
Plagues on haughty Pharaoh sent,
And on all his num'rous Host.

10 He the Heathen Nations smote,
Mighty Monarchs he suppress'd;
Sihon, Og, and all besides,
Who rich Canaan's Land possess'd.

11 Then, upon his chosen Race,
All their Land he did entail;
Therefore shall his Glory last,
And his praise shall never fail.

12 For the LORD his People's Cause
Shall with pitying Eyes survey;
And, repenting of his Wrath,
Turn his kindled Rage away.

13 Idols, whose false Worship spreads
Over all the Heathen Lands,
Made of Silver and of Gold,
Are the Work of human Hands.

14 They have Tongues, but cannot speak,
Useless are their polish'd Eyes;
They have Ears, and yet they're deaf,
And no Breath their Moth supplies.

15 Senseless, as themselves, are they,
Who their utmost Skill apply,
First to frame them, and when fram'd,
On their Work for Aid rely.

16 But their just Returns to GOD,
Still let grateful Israel pay;
Let the Priests of Aaron's Race,
Bless the LORD without Delay.

17 Of his Love, let Levi's House,
Their most pious Sense express;
Let all those that fear the LORD,
His great Name for ever bless.

18 Oh, let all in Sin's Courts
His amazing Works proclaim;
And in Salem, where he dwells,
Still exalt his holy Name.
