90. Up to Thy throne, O Lord

1 Up to Thy throne, O Lord,
We would direct our cries;
Our trust is in Thy word,
Our hope beyond the skies.
There's nought beneath the sun
On which our hearts can rest;
Years through their changes run,
And leave our souls unblest.

2 We have no guide but Thee;
Our path is drear and dark;
We plough life's stormy sea
In frail and treach'rous bark.
Starless the skies above,
Surfing the main below;
Without Thee, God of Love!
Our fate is death and woe.

3 To Thee, Great God, we look
For help in every hour;
Direct us by Thy Book,
And save us by Thy power.
Save us from all that's wrong,
Inspire us with Thy love,
In virtue make us strong,
And fix our hearts above.
