147. Lord of the Universe

1 Lord of the universe,
God of the nation,
Author of mercy, of love and salvation;
Hear Thou the prayers we raise,
Hear songs we sing;
Clothed in all majesty,
Thou art our King.

2 Thro’ turmoil, care and strife
Thou hast been near us;
In hours of dire distress Thou, Lord, didst hear us;
Continue us to bless;
Be with us still;
Help us more nearly, Lord,
To do Thy will.

3 Teach us humility,
We, Lord, implore Thee;
Help us remember our sins are before Thee;
Keep us from day to day;
Our souls defend;
Then will we worship Thee,
World without end.
