st. 1 = Ps. 90:1
Written by Marie J. Post (PHH 5) in 1979 for the profession of faith of her daughter Meredith, this text was first published in the 1987 Psalter Hymnal.
The text expresses thanks to God for his leading in past years (st. 1), for his presence in our lives today by his Word (st. 2), and for hope of blessing in future years (st. 3). As" we sing, we address the God of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and we dedicate ourselves to his service.
Liturgical Use:
Profession of faith; sermon response; hymn of dedication; for worship that focuses on the family; Reformation services; church anniversaries; graduation ceremonies (from schools or church classes).

Tune Information:One of the 246 hymn tunes by Joseph Barnby (PHH 438), JORDAN was published in The Hymnary (1872) as a setting for "Sing to the Lord a Joyful Song." JORDAN contains several repeated phrases. Barnby originally composed the tune to be sung in harmony with phrases 5 and 7 sung in unison, although the full accompaniment was included for organ. But have the congregation sing in unison throughout, perhaps with one stanza in harmony.
