791. Father, we for our children plead

1 Father, we for our children plead,
The children thou hast given;
Where shall we go in time of need
But to the God of Heaven?

2 We ask for them not wealth or fame
Amid the worldly strife:
But, in the all-prevailing name,
We ask eternal life.

3 We seek the Spirit’s quickening grace
To make them pure in heart,
That they may stand before thy face
And see thee as thou art.
