54. Vigilance

1 On thy journey to the homeland,
God is watching over thee;
He shall light thy path, O pilgrim,
Till thou canst the landmarks see.

The pillar of cloud shall go before thee,
To guide thy footsteps day by day;
The pillar of cloud shall go before thee,
And ev'ry night make clear thy way.

2 He that watches over Israel,
Never slumbers, never sleeps;
And o'er all His faithful children,
Vigilance eternal keeps. [Chorus]

3 Forward then with courage, pilgrim,
Light shall dawn from heav'n's throne;
He who set thee on thy journey,
Will not let thee walk alone. [Chorus]

4 On the mountain, in the valley,
Ev'rywhere shall He sustain;
And when darkness gathers round thee,
Bring thee into light again. [Chorus]
