I have felt sin’s breakers dashing,
Trying to conquer my soul;
But I heard the voice of my Saviour
Telling me still to fight on;
And He promis'd never to leave me,

2 When this world's winds are blowing
Temptations sharp and keen,
I feel a peace in knowing
My Saviour stands between:
Stands to shield me from danger
When earthly friends are gone;

3 When in affliction’s dark valley
There treading the footpaths of care,
My Saviour helps me to carry
My cross, when heavy to bear;
When my feet are entangled with briers,
Of sin to tumble me down,
My Saviour then whispers this promise,

4 For me he died on the mountain,
For me they pierc'd His side;
For me He opened the fountain,
The crimson blood, sin-cleansing tide;
