38. Service for Others

1 Rouse ye, Christian people, listen!
Do you value as you ought
Precious souls whom Christ the Savior
With the blood of Calv’ry bo’t?
List your eyes and look about you
On the fields already white;
Thrust the sickle, God will help you
Bring the lost ones to the light.

2 To redeem the world from bondage
Jesus Christ, the Savior, died,
Willingly endured affliction,
On the cross was crucified;
For our misdeeds he was wounded,
And he bore the sins of all;
Can you fathom such compassion?
Can you e’er such love recall?

3 Are you not your brother’s keeper?
Will you not your Lord obey?
Hark! he calls you into service,
“In my vineyard work today;
Do not wait until tomorrow,
There is danger in delay;
Without Christ some souls may perish
While you idle time away.

4 “Inasmuch as ye have done it
Unto me,” the King shall say
When we gather in his kingdom
At the final judgment day,
“Inasmuch as ye have done it
To the least, ‘twas done for me,
Therefore come and share my glory
Thro’ the long eternity.”
