Text: | THEE we adore, eternal Word! |
Author: | Anon. |
1 THEE we adore, eternal Word!
The Father's equal Son;
By heaven's obedient hosts adored
Ere time its course begun.
2 The first creation has displayed
Thine energy divine;
For not a single thing was made
By other hands than thine.
3 But ransomed sinners, with delight,
Sublimer facts survey,--
The all-creating Word united
Himself to dust and clay.
4 Creation's Author now assumes
A creature's humble form;
A man of grief and woe becomes--
Is trod on like a worm.
5 The Lord of glory bears the same
To vile transgressors due;
Justice the Prince of life condemns
To die in anguish too.
6 God over all, forever blest,
The righteous curse endures;
And thus, to souls with sin distressed,
Eternal bliss insures.
