38. Come, Linger no Longer

1 ‘Tis the onward march of the conquering host!
‘Tis the army of the Lord!
Hear the joyful shout! in his name we trust,
For sure is his holy word.

Refrain:
Come, linger on longer,
From your sluggish sleep arise!
With the shield of faith and the sword of truth,
Win your way to the victor’s prize.

2 Put your armor on and your trust in God,
For the foe is near at hand,
Where the saints have fought, and the ransomed trod,
There firm for your Captain stand. [Refrain]

3 Join the glorious ranks as they pass along—
Ere the day of grace be gone,
You can never vanquish a foe so strong,
If left to yourself alone. [Refrain]
