Refrain authorities

It was common in the past (especially at revival meetings) to tack on choruses to popular hymns. "O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing" probably has several different choruses attached to it, but we do not make a separate authority record for each refrain. Otherwise we might have hundreds or thousands of records for a hymn. The chorus "Blessed be the name" has been attached to more than one hymn as well. They are tied together by the tune authority.

Has anyone given any thought to creating a Refrain authority system the would allow searching from that starting point,both to find refrains used as stand-alone stanzas (e.g. O come, let us adore him) and to see what hymns' stanzaic content have been coupled with a particular refrain? There are times when I would find such a thing useful. I would imagine it wouldn't be too hard to create an external app that would go in and extract from the database the items sought. But I am not good at app creation. I didn't even used to be much good at inventing macros.
