Hymn dedication?

You are here

While reviewing some Fanny Crosby hymns that are not well known, I encountered one in an 1868 hymnal (Sabbath Carols, p. 36) that says “written expressly for ”Howard Mission".   Title:  “More Like Jesus”, composer William H. Doane.

Google search has links to an institution in New York City known as “The Howard Mission in New York:  Home for Little Wanderers”.

Is there any way to confirm or deny that the hymnal reference and dedication are to the “….Home for little wanderers”?  I read somewhere that Fanny Crosby was keenly interested in the Temperance movement and that suggests (to me) that she might also have been interested in what appears to be a facility to house minors who were orphaned/abandoned.   A similar organization with the same name seems to exist in New Jersey.

TIA if anyone can add to the above.

Thanks for the interesting anecdote. I don't know of solid evidence, but your guess seems to me not only plausible but likely.
