Gottlob Adolph was born Oct. 30, 1685 in Nieder-Wiese [now Krzewina, Poland], where his father was a deacon. He began as an assistant teacher at the school in Hirschberg, then was pastor at Grosshennersdorf, and later was a deacon, archdeacon, and senior [provost] in Hirschberg. He died suddenly August 1st, 1745, the 7th Sunday after Trinity Sunday, when he was struck by lightning while delivering the sermon. He is the author of the hymns: Gott hilf mir, dass ich Busse thu; Wie treu, mein guter Hirte; and others.
