Johann Simon Buchka

Short Name: Johann Simon Buchka
Full Name: Buchka, Johann Simon, 1705-1752
Birth Year: 1705
Death Year: 1752

Johann Simon Buchka was born 27 April 1705 in Arzberg of Bayreuth. He studied in Jena and Leipzig. He taught mathematics, philosophy, and poetry in the school at Klosterberg. In 1734 he became vice-rector to the court, where he had been the Fridays preacher for a few years. He died 25 March 1752. In his youth he had poked fun at certain pious persons in the poem "Mussel, oder der neue Heilige"; he later lamented this in his text "Evangelischen Bussthränen". From him comes the hymn: "Steh Ephraim, besinne dich".
