Buck, William Calmes. (Shenandoah--now Warren--County, Virginia, August 23, 1790--May 18, 1872, Waco, Texas). Southern Baptist. Self-educated. Pastorates at Water Lick, Virginia, 1812; several in Union County, Kentucky, 1820-1833; Louisville, Kentucky, 1836-1851; Columbus, Mississippi, 1854-1857; Greenborough, Alabama, 1857-1858; Selma, Alabama, 1858-1859; Noxubee County, Mississippi, 1864-1866. Secretary of Bible Board of Southern Baptist Convention, 1851-1854. Edited various Baptist publications, in which he was at one time associated with Mason Brayman. Wrote two books on philosophy and science of religion, edited and published The Baptist Hymn Book (1842).
