Giles Fletcher

Fletcher, Giles, B.D., son of Dr. Giles Fletcher, cousin of John Fletcher, the dramatic poet, and brother of Phineas Fletcher (p. 379, i.) was born probably in London, circa 1585, and educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, B.A. 1606, and B.D. 1619. He was for some time Rector of Alderton, Suffolk, and died in 1623. His poem, Christ's Victory and Triumph, in Four Parts, was published in 1610. The cento "Lift up your heads, ye everlasting gates," in Dr. Neale's Hymns . . . on the Joys and Glories of Paradise, 1865, is compiled, with alterations, from Pt. iv. of this poem.
