Michael George Haller, a German church musician and composer, was was born January 13, 1840 in Neusath bei Nabburg (Oberpfalz). His earliest musical education was as a pupil in the Benedictine abbey at Metten, and in 1864 he became prefect of the boys' choir school at Regensburg Cathedral. Here he met Franz Xaver Haberl and became aligned with the Cecilian Movement. He continued his study of composition and rose to become the leader of the Regensburg cathedral choir. Haller's compositions extended to over one hundred opus numbers, including masses, motets, and shorter liturgical works. He was considered a master of the Cecilian style. Haller died in Regensburg Jan. 4, 1915.
