Roger Hoffman

Roger Hoffman was born in Vermont, the son of a Protestant minister dad and a witty and music-loving mom. He has loved music for as long as he can remember, back to the time when he was old enough to crank up his grandfather’s Victrola record player and “lead” Souza marches with a long stick. These auspicious beginnings prompted Roger’s mother to encourage his interests. When he was 12, she took him to audition for the American Boychoir School. He attended the school for 3 years, providing him with a rich foundation in choral literature and music theory. His time there also gave him many performing and recording opportunities, including singing under the direction of Leonard Bernstein at Philharmonic Hall. He later attended Morehead State University and BYU, where he led small ensembles and large choirs as a student director.

Roger has received major industry awards for his songwriting and compositions, including CLIO, Peabody (special recognition for music score, Bradbury 13), Telly, and New York Film Festival (Luke II) awards. As a songwriter, his most recognized song is “Consider the Lilies of the Field”.

Throughout their lifetime of working for children, Roger and his wife, Melanie, have co-written and produced several musical theater series for children, including: the “Scripture Scouts”, the “AllAbout” series, “Alexander’s Amazing Adventures” and “We Are Amazing”, totaling hundreds of songs for children. On their own, the Hoffmans have written and produced twelve albums of original songs and arrangements.

Roger and Melanie have created music scores for documentaries by Truman and Ann Madsen, “The Eternal Christ”, and “Opening Isaiah”, and for Loki Mulholland's award-winning films, “An Ordinary Hero” and "The Uncomfortable Truth" among others.

Roger loves spending time with his wife, his children and his grandchildren, maple syrup, hiking, reading, and singing in and leading choirs.
