Daniel A. McGregor

Short Name: Daniel A. McGregor
Full Name: McGregor, Daniel Arthur 1847-1890
Birth Year: 1847
Death Year: 1890

McGregor, Daniel Arthur. (Osgoode Township, Ontario, December 13, 1847--April 25, 1890, New York City). Baptist. University of Toronto, B.A., 1881. Pastorate at Stratford, Ont., 1881-1886; professor (1886-1889) at Toronto Bible College, then the theological department of McMaster University. Appointed TBC's principal in 1889, he was almost at once paralyzed by a spinal disorder. Before going to New York for unavailing surgery, he wrote the hymn "Jesus, wondrous Saviour" which, while never officially adopted by the University, was sung in his honour at so many University ceremonies that it became known as "The McMaster Hymn" and alumni proceeded to make it familiar to Baptists throughout Canada.
