Oreste Ravanello was born Aug. 25, 1871 in Venice. He studied at the Liceo Musicale in Venice before being appointed the organist at the famous St. Mark's Cathedral at the age of 17. He later taught at conservatories in Venice and Padua. Ravanello was especially known for his church music, composing some 30 masses and other liturgical works, in addition to works for organ and for piano. He died in Padua July 2, 1938.
