Samuel Spofforth. A chorister at Southwell Minster in 1793, when 12 years old, he was installed as a bass “singingman” in the Minster in 1798. Taught the organ by his uncle Thomas Spofforth, Samuel also was organist at Peterborough Cathedral from 1798 to 1805 and Lichfield Cathedral from 1807 to 1864, 57 years.
