Stidger, William LeRoy, D.D. (Moundsville, West Virginia, March 16, 1885 [sic]--August 7, 1949, Newton Center, Massachusetts). For many years head of the department of homiletics, Boston University School of Theology. Graduated A.B., Allegheny College, 1909; was ordained a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1914 and served pastorates in California, Michigan, Missouri, and Boston. Brown University conferred the degree of Ph.D. on him in 1914; Allegheny D. D., 1921; Kansas Wesleyan Litt.D., 1928; Salem (W. Va.) College L.H.D., 1934. Dr. Stidger was a well-known and popular lecturer as well as a voluminous writer. He published twenty-two volumes of prose and two of poetry, the latter: I Saw God Wash the World (1934) and Rainbow Born is Beauty (1941).
