Edward Shippen Barnes
1887 - 1958 Composer of "HOVENDEN" in The Church School Hymnal for Youth Edward Shippen Barnes was an American organist and composer. He was born 9 September 1887 in Seabright, NJ and died 2 February 1958 in Idyllwild, CA. He studied at Yale University with Horatio Parker and Harry Jepson, then continued his studies in Paris. He worked as an organizt at Church of the Incarnation in New York, Rutgers Presbyterian Chruch in New York, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Philadelphia and the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica. He is known for his organ syvmphonies.

Cornelius Elven
1791 - 1873 Composer of "HOLBORN HILL" in Songs of the Christian Life Elven, Cornelius, pastor for fifty years of the Baptist Church at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, was born in 1797, and died in 1873. His hymn, "With broken heart and contrite sigh” (Lent), is found in several collections in Great Britain and America. It was written in Jan., 1852 (Miller's Singers & Songs, p., 449) for use at special services by his own congregation, and was included in the Baptist Psalms & Hymns, 1858.

Francis Duckworth
1862 - 1941 Composer of "RIMINGTON" in The Cyber Hymnal Born: December 25, 1862, Rimington, Yorkshire, England.
Died: August 16, 1941, at his home Swanside in Colne, England.
Buried: St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, Gisburn, Lancashire. His gravestone bears the music of Rimington, and a plaque to his memory was placed above the doorway to the former Methodist Chapel in Stopper Lane, Lancashire.
When Duckworth was five years old, his family moved to the village of Stopper Lane, near Rimington. He had to leave school at age 12 to help in the family business. At age 20, he moved to Burnley, Lancashire, to work for a tobacconist cousin. Six years later, he returned to live at Colne, and in 1899 took a grocery business in Market Street, Colne.
Duckworth had an early interest in music, but received only three months of formal lessons. Shortly after arriving in Colne, he became deputy organist (later organist) at the Albert Road Methodist Church, serving until 1929. He composed numerous hymn tunes, 18 of them appearing in the Rimington Hymnal. His tune Rimington was sung by a massive congregation of British troops on the Mount of Olives after the surrender of Jerusalem during World War I.

1750 - 1825 Person Name: R. W. Dixon, 1760-1825 Composer of "STAINCLIFFE" in The Riverdale Hymn Book William Dixon b. ? Lndon, c. 1760; d. there 1825) composer, writer, teacher and music-engraver; lived partly in London, partly in Liverpool, where he was apparently connected with All Saints' Church. He composed 'Psalmodia Christiana," a collection of sacred music (1790); 'Euphonia,' 62 psalm and hymn tunes in 4 parts for All Saints' Church, Liverpool' Moralities, or verses on music, friendship, avarice, etc.' services, anthems, glees; also som numbers in Arnold's collection of hymn tunes. He also wrote an Introduction ot Singing, 1795)
