S. M. Bixby

1833 - 1912 Composer of "[The day is gently sinking to a close]" in The Church and Home Hymnal Samuel M. Bixby was born on May 27, 1833 in Haverhill, New Hampshire. His company, S. M. Bixby & Company, manufactured shoe blackings and shoe dressings, but music was his passion. He was also a Sunday school superintendent and choir leader. He died on March 11, 1912 in Fordham, New York. 1862 - 1941 Composer of "TWILIGHT" in The Primitive Methodist Church Hymnal William Burchinell Judefind Born: Circa 1862, Maryland. Around 1888, Judefind taught vocal music at the Westminster Theological Seminary, Maryland. In 1907, he was pastor at the Violetville Methodist Protestant Church, Baltimore, Maryland. Later, he and his brother ran a publishing company in Baltimore. He was living in Baltimore as of 1920.
