As We, Your People Gather (Hymn for World Peace)

Author: Howard Maple Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: As we, your people, gather Lyrics: 1 As we, your people, gather with wearied hearts, O Lord, let prayers be now uplifted for peace to be restored. May healing and repentance in every land be known, as sword is turned to plowshare and seeds of trust are sown. 2 The cries of desperation, the orphan in distress, instill in us a longing that words cannot express. Yet, as the Spirit's presence within each heart is stirred, we find new strength and courage in God's unfailing Word. 3 The prophet voices call us to seek that promised day when hatred and oppression at last are swept away. No darkness will surround us; in light we dwell secure. God's purpose is accomplished when peace and love endure. Topics: Commemoration of 9/11; Courage; Justice and Peace; Peace; Peace on Earth; Promise and Hope Scripture: Isaiah 2:4-5 Used With Tune: AURELIA

Light of the minds that know him

Author: Augustine (354-430); Timothy Dudley-Smith (born 1926) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 12 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Light of the minds that know him, may Christ be light to mine! my sun in risen splendour, my light of truth divine; my guide in doubt and darkness, my true and living way, my clear light ever shining, my dawn of heaven's day. 2 Life of the souls that love him, may Christ be ours indeed! the living bread from heaven on whom our spirits feed; who died for love of sinners to bear our guilty load, and make of life's brief journey a new Emmaus road. 3 Strength of the wills that serve him, may Christ be strength to me, who stilled the storm and tempest, who calmed the tossing sea; his Spirit's power to move me, his will to master mine, his cross to carry daily and conquer in his sign. 4 May it be ours to know him that we may truly love, and loving, fully serve him as serve the saints above; till in that home of glory with fadeless splendour bright, we serve in perfect freedom our strength, our life, our light. Topics: Easter The Resurrection of Christ; Easter 2 The Emmaus Road; God's Church Love and Devotion; Pentecost 7 The More Excellent Way Used With Tune: AURELIA

O Father, You Are Sovereign

Author: Margaret Clarkson Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 6 hymnals Lyrics: 1. O Father, You are sovereign In all the worlds You made; Your mighty Word was spoken, And light and life obeyed. Your voice commands the seasons And bounds the ocean’s shore, Sets stars within their courses And stills the tempests’ roar. 2. O Father, You are sovereign In all affairs of man; No powers of death or darkness Can thwart Your perfect plan. All chance and change transcending, Supreme in time and space, You hold your trusting children Secure in Your embrace. 3. O Father, You are sovereign The Lord of human pain, Transmuting earthly sorrows To gold of heavenly gain, All evil overruling, As none but Conqueror could, Your love pursues its purpose— Our souls’ eternal good. 4. O Father, You are sovereign! We see You dimly now, But soon before Your triumph Earth’s every knee shall bow. With this glad hope before us Our faith springs forth anew: Our Sovereign Lord and Savior, We trust and worship You! The words to this hymn are under copyright.
