1909 - 2002 Topics: Kingdom of God Composer (refrain) of "[The eyes of all wait upon thee]" in Christian Worship Jean Berger, born Artur Schlossberg in Hamm, Germany, the son of Orthodox Jews, he studied music in Vienna and Heidelberg and received a PhD in Musicology from Heidelberg. He served briefly as assistant conductor of the Darmstadt Opera and then was forced to flee Nazi Germany. He studied in Paris where he was also a choir conductor. He traveled throughout Europe and the Near East as a pianist and accompanist. He spent some time in Brazil as a conductor and teacher. He moved to the United States in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army producing foreign language broadcasts and traveling with USO shows. He was a faculty member at Middlebury College, Vermont, the University of Illinois, and the University of Colorado. He composed mostly choral works, but also orchestral works.
