Hark, the Voice of Jesus Calling

Author: Daniel March, 1816-1909 Hymnal: Worship and Service Hymnal #429 (1957) Lyrics: 1 Hark! the voice of Jesus crying, "Who will go and work today? Fields are white, and harvests waiting, Who will bear the sheave away?" Loud and long the Master calleth; Rich reward He offers thee; Who will answer, gladly saying, "Here am I; send me, send me"? 2 If you cannot cross the ocean, And the heathen lands explore, You can find the heathen nearer, You can help them at your door: If you cannot give your thousands, You can give the widow's mite; And the least you give for Jesus Will be precious in His sight. 3 Let none hear you idly saying, "There is nothing I can do," While the souls of men are dying, And the Master calls for you: Gladly take the task He gives you; Let His work your pleasure be; Answer quickly when He calleth, "Here am I; send me, send me!" Amen. Topics: Benevolence; Dedication of Life; Soul Winning; Stewardship of Life and Talents; The Christian Way of Life Christian Missions Languages: English Tune Title: ELLESDIE

Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken

Author: Henry F. Lyte, 1793-1847 Hymnal: Revival Hymns and Choruses #431 (1970) Lyrics: 1 Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow Thee; Destitute, despised, forsaken - Thou from hence my all shalt be. Perish ev'ry fond ambition - All I've sought, or hoped, or known! Yet how rich is my condition - God and heav'n are still my own! 2 Let the world despise and leave me, They have left my Savior too; Human hearts and looks deceive me - Thou art not, like man, untrue. And while Thou shalt smile upon me God of wisdom, love, and might, Foes may hate, and friends may shun me - Show Thy face, and all is bright! 3 Man may trouble and distress me, 'Twill but drive me to Thy breast; Life with trials hard may press me - Heav'n will bring me sweeter rest. O 'tis not in grief to harm me While Thy love is left to me; O 'twere not in joy to charm me, Were that joy unmixed with Thee! 4 Haste thee on from grace to glory, Armed by faith and winged by prayer; Heav'n's eternal day's before thee - God's own hand shall guide thee there. Soon shall close thy earthly mission, Soon shall pass thy pilgrim days; Hope shall change to glad fruition, Faith to sight, and prayer to praise! Author: Daniel March Hymnal: Trinity Hymnal (Rev. ed.) #443 (1990) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Lyrics: 1 Hark! the voice of Jesus crying, "Who will go and work today? Fields are white, and harvests waiting; who will bear the sheaves away?" Loud and long the Master calleth, rich reward he offers free; who will answer, gladly saying, "Here am I; send me, send me." 2 If you cannot cross the ocean, and the heathen lands explore, you can find the heathen nearer, you can help them at your door. If you cannot give your thousands, you can give the widow's mite; and the least you give for Jesus will be precious in his sight. 3 If you cannot be a watchman, standing high on Zion's wall, pointing out the path to heaven, off'ring life and peace to all, with your pray'rs and with your bounties you can do what God demands; you can be like faithful Aaron, holding up the prophet's hands. 4 Let none hear you idly saying, "There is nothing I can do," while the sons of men are dying, and the Master calls for you: take the task he gives you gladly, let his work your pleasure be; answer quickly when he calleth, "Here am I; send me, send me."
