Jabez Burns

1805 - 1876 Hymnal Number: 976 Author of "Round the temperance standard rally" in Hymns Burns, Jabez, D.D., the well known Baptist Minister, was born at Oldham, Lancashire, Dec. 18, 1805, and was one of the first Ministers of Religion in London who vigorously advocated Total Abstinence. He edited several Temperance publications, and employed a versatile and forcible pen in the cause of Temperance, both in prose and verse. He d. Eleanor Tatlock

Hymnal Number: 304 Author of "Far from thy fold, O [my] God, my feet" in Hymns Tatlock, Eleanor, of Sandwich. Two vols. of her Poems were published in 1811, and her hymn "Far from Thy fold, O God, my feet" (Reconciliation) is given in Hatfield's Church Hymns, N. Y. 1872.
