Salvation now to us has come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551; Carl Döving, 1867-1936 Hymnal: Together in Song #195 (1999) Meter: 8.7.87.8.8.7 Topics: Faith; Grâce; Jesus Christ Redeemer; Justification; Law of God; Salvation; Service; Sin; Trust in God Lyrics: 1 Salvation now to us has come by God’s free grace and favour; good works cannot avert our doom, they help and save us never. In faith we look to Christ alone, who did for all the world atone; he is our one redeemer. 2 The law of God fulfilled must be, or we were lost for ever; therefore God sent his Son that he might us from death deliver. For us the law he has fulfilled, the Father's anger he has stilled; God's curse is gone for ever. 3 Since Christ has full atonement made and brought us to salvation, each Christian therefore may be glad, and build on this foundation: your grace alone, dear Lord, we plead, your death is now our life indeed, for you have paid our ransom. 4 To you, O Lord, in faith we cling, we love and trust you truly, and from this faith good works will spring that serve our neighbour duly. It's faith alone that justified; the works that from such faith arise reveal that it is living. 5 All blessing, honour, thanks and praise to Father, Son, and Spirit, to God who saved us by his grace; all glory to his merit! O Triune God, in heaven above, you have revealed your saving love; your blessèd name we hallow. Scripture: 1 John 2:1-2 Languages: English Tune Title: ES IST DAS HEIL

Let carnal minds the world pursue

Hymnal: Hymns, Selected and Original #307 (1828) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Salvation through Jesus Christ The sinner trusting in Christ for salvation Lyrics: 1 Let carnal minds the world pursue, It has no charms for me; Once, I admir'd its trifles too, But grace has set me free. 2 Its fading charms no longer please, No more content afford; Far from my heart be joys like these, Now I have seen the Lord. 3 As by the light of op'ning day, The stars are all conceal'd; So earthly pleasures fade away, When Jesus is reveal'd. 4 Creatures no more divide my choice-- I bid them all depart; His name, and love, and gracious voice, Have fix'd my roving heart. 5 Now, Lord, I would be thine alone, And wholly live to thee; But may I hope that thou wilt own A worthless worm like me? Sing to the Lord, who loud proclaims

Hymnal: Hymns, Selected and Original #312 (1828) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Salvation through Jesus Christ The sinner trusting in Christ for salvation Lyrics: 1 Sing to the Lord, who loud proclaims His various and his saving names. O may they not be heard alone, But by our sure experience known. 2 Awake, our noblest pow'rs to bless The God of Abra'm, God of peace; Now by a dearer title known, Father and God of Christ his Son. 3 Through ev'ry age his gracious ear Is open to his servants' pray'r; Nor can one humble soul complain, That it hath sought its God in vain. 4 What unbelieving heart shall dare In whispers to suggest a fear, While still he owns his ancient name, The same his pow'r, his love the same! 5 To thee our souls in faith arise, To thee we lift expecting eyes, And boldly through the desert tread, For God will guard, where God shall lead.

No trust in men, or kings of men, Can confidence afford, But they are strong, and sure their trust, Whose hope is in the Lord. 3 Tho' nations compass me about, The swarming hosts of sin, Yet in the Name of God the Lord I shall the vict'ry win. The Lord hath helped and kept me safe When foes were fierce and strong; The Lord my Saviour is become, He is my strength and song. 4 Salvation'a joyful song is heard Where'er the righteous dwell; For them God's hand is strong to save And doeth all things well. I shall not die, but live and tell The wonders of the Lord; He hath not giv'n my soul to death, But chastened and restored. Scripture: Psalm 118 Languages: English Tune Title: HEAVENLY FOLD
