Our God, You Called to Moses

Author: Carolyn Winfrey Gillette Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: Call/Vocation First Line: Our God, you called to Moses to set your people free Lyrics: Our God, you called to Moses to set your people free. What wrongly some suppose is: He answered easily. “I’m not the one you’re seeking!” he seemed instead to say. “My strength is not in speaking; God, find another way!” And yet, O Lord, you told him to trust in what you said. Your strength would surely hold him through every day ahead. Though many would oppose him, by your own name he’d know: You were the one who chose him to help your people go. You call each congregation to serve the lost and poor. We doubt our own vocation; we ask, “Lord, are you sure?” Yet you give gifts for sharing, you show us what to say. Your Spirit gives us daring to serve Christ every day. Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12 Used With Tune: LLANGLOFFAN

Gathered: feed our deepest being prophet's truth and godly nerve; scattered: let our lives' fruition nourish others while we serve. 2 Visit towns and inner cities; penetrate our steel and stone with a love that melt our coldness, making mission here our own. We will seek you, love transfigured, in our neighbour's need until deep within our daily service love draws forth our utmost skill. 3 With your bread, your wine, your Spirit, nurture us for your intent; let your will be our vocation lived as song and sacrament. Thus chosen, now, O Lord, we ask for faith in your unfailing grace to make us equal to the task. 3 You call us, Lord, to be good stewards of the earth; to tend to it as a place of blessedness and worth. Thus chosen, now, O Lord, we ask for faith in your unfailing grace to make us equal to the task. 4 You call us, Lord, to serve: to die that we may live, to know we best receive when joyfully we give. Ye Who Called, Ye Who Called

Author: Ludolph Ernst Schlicht, 1714-1769; John Gambold, 1711-1771 Appears in 9 hymnals Topics: Ministry and Christian Vocation Lyrics: 1 Ye who called, ye who called to Christ’s service are, join together, join together, both in work and prayer; venture all on him, our Lord, who assures us in his word, we are always, we are always objects of his care. 2 Showers of blessing, showers of blessing from the Lord proceed, strength supplying, strength supplying in the time of need; for no servant of our King ever lacked for anything. He will never, he will never break the bruised reed. 3 Lord, have mercy, Lord, have mercy on each land and place, where your servants, where your servants preach the word of grace; life and pow'r on them bestow, them with needful strength endow, that with boldness, that with boldness they may you confess. 4 May we faithful, may we faithful in our service be, truly careful, truly careful in our ministry; keep us to your church fast bound, in the faith preserve us sound, often weeping, often weeping grateful tears of joy. Scripture: Isaiah 42:3 Used With Tune: SERVICE

Christ is the one who calls

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith (b. 1926) Meter: 6.6.6.6.4.4.4.4 Appears in 2 hymnals Topics: Vocation Lyrics: 1 Christ is the one who calls, the one who loved and came, to whom by right it falls to bear the highest name: and still today our hearts are stirred to hear his word and walk his way. 2 Christ is the one who seeks, to whom our souls are known. The word of love he speaks can wake a heart of stone; for at that sound the blind can see, the slave is free, the lost are found. 3 Christ is the one who died forsaken and betrayed; who, mocked and crucified, the price of pardon paid. Our dying Lord, what grief and loss, what bitter cross, our souls restored! 4 Christ is the one who rose in glory from the grave, to share his life with those whom once he died to save. He drew death's sting and broke its chains, who lives and reigns, our risen King. 5 Christ is the one who sends, his story to declare; who calls his servants friends and gives them news to share. His truth proclaim in all the earth, his matchless worth and saving name. Scripture: Matthew 28:18-20 Used With Tune: LOVE UNKNOWN
