To thee, O Lord, our hearts we raise

Author: William Chatterton Dix, 1837 - 98 Hymnal: Service Book and Hymnal of the Lutheran Church in America #445 (1958) Lyrics: 1 To thee, O Lord, our hearts we raise In hymns of adoration, To thee bring sacrifice of praise With shouts of exultation. Bright robes of gold the fields adorn, The hills with joy are ringing, The valleys stand so thick with corn That even they are singing. 2 And now, on this our festal day, Thy bounteous hand confessing, Upon thine altar, Lord, we lay The first-fruits of thy blessing. By thee the souls of men are fed With gifts of grace supernal; Thou, who dost give us daily bread, Give us the bread eternal. 3 We bear the burden of the day, And often toil seems dreary; But labor ends with sunset ray, And rest is for the weary. May we, the angel-reaping o'er, Stand at the last accepted, Christ's golden sheaves, for evermore To garners bright elected. 4 O blessèd is that land of God Where saints abide for ever, Where golden fields spread fair and broad, Where flows the crystal river. The strains of all its holy throng With ours today are blending; Thrice blessèd is that harvest-song Which never hath an ending. For my sake and the gospel's go

Author: Edward Henry Bickersteth, 1825-1906 Hymnal: The Irish Presbyterian Hymnbook #633 (2004) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Lyrics: 1 'For my sake and the gospel's, go and tell redemption's story!' His heralds answer, 'Be it so, and Yours, Lord, all the glory!' They preach His birth, His life, His cross, the love of His atonement, for whom they count the world but loss, His Easter, His enthronement. 2 Hark, hark, the trump of jubilee proclaims to every nation, from pole to pole, by land and sea, glad tidings of salvation: still on and on the anthems spread of alleluia voices, in concert with the holy dead the warrior Church rejoices. 3 He comes, whose advent trumpet drowns the last of time's evangels, Emmanuel, crowned with many crowns, the Lord of saints and angels: O Trinity, the great I AM, the Love who changes never, the throne of God and of the Lamb is Yours, and Yours for ever. For My Sake, and the Gospel's

Author: Edward H. Bickersteth, Jr. Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #1590 Meter: 8.7.8.7 D First Line: For My sake, and the Gospel's, go Lyrics: 1. For My sake, and the Gospel’s, go And tell redemption’s story; His heralds answer, Be it so, And Thine, Lord, all the glory! They preach His birth, His life, His cross, The love of His atonement, For whom they count the world but loss, His Easter, His enthronement. 2. Hark, hark, the trump of jubilee Proclaims to every nation, From pole to pole, by land and sea, Glad tidings of salvation; As nearer draws the day of doom, While still the battle rages, The heav’nly dayspring through the gloom Breaks on the night of ages. 3. Still on and on the anthems spread Of alleluia voices, In concert with the holy dead The warrior Church rejoices; Their snow white robes are washed in blood, Their golden harps are ringing; Earth and the paradise of God One triumph song are singing. 4. He comes, whose advent trumpet drowns The last of time’s evangels, Emmanuel crowned with many crowns, The Lord of saints and angels; O Life, Light, Love, the great I AM, Triune, who changest never, The throne of God and of the Lamb Is Thine, and Thine forever.
