Jesus, Sailing On the Sea

Author: Alan Gaunt Meter: 7.7.7.7 D Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: Epiphany and Ministry of Christ Lyrics: 1 Jesus, sailing on the sea, through a storm on Galilee, on a cushion fast asleep, heedless of the raging deep: your disciples, full of dread, fearing they will soon be dead, shake you, crying in despair, "We are drowning! Don't you care?" 2 Soon, before the boat can spill, you are shouting, "Peace! Be still!" Now the wind and sea are calm, and the crew are safe from harm. You say, "Why are you afraid, why distraught and so dismayed? Is your trust in God so small; do you have no faith at all?" 3 Your disciples, filled with awe, say, "Who's known such things before? Who is this we've seen today, whom the wind and waves obey?" Lord, though we are frightened too by the harm the world can do, calm our fears when tempests rise; give us faith that never dies. Scripture: Luke 8:22-25 Used With Tune: ABERYSTWYTH

Lift Up The Banner Of Salvation

Author: H. Brueckner; K. V. Tamminen Meter: 9.10.9.10.10.10 Appears in 2 hymnals Topics: The Means of Grace The Ministry Lyrics: 1 Lift up the banner of salvation, That white and blood-dyed banner of the cross. Proclaim it wide to ev'ry nation: There is redemption from our dreaded loss; The Lamb of God upon the cross was slain That man the promised crown of life might gain. 2 Raise high that banner for each nation, Let ev'ry eye behold the Crucified, Whom God before the world's foundation Had as a ransom for us set aside. Do not this truth from anyone withhold; To all the message of the cross be told. 3 Lift up the banner, tell the story: With Jesus' blood thou, too, wast dearly bought; Behold, the mighty Lord of glory Complete salvation for us all hath wrought. Poor, weeping soul, be happy and rejoice And praise the Lamb of God with gladsome voice. 4 Then let no other news be spoken, Let ev'ryone the Master's Word repeat. Why should a man, with promise broken, Proclaim the wisdom of his own conceit? For such a one will nevermore be blest, Since God's displeasure must upon him rest. 5 Regard us from Thy habitation, For we are erring, blind and poor, O Lord. That wisdom which is our salvation Remains alone with Thine unerring Word, And even this we cannot comprehend If Thou wilt not Thy Spirit's brightness lend. Used With Tune: CRASSELIUS

All Who Love and Serve Your City

Author: Erik Routley Meter: 8.7.8.7 Appears in 34 hymnals Topics: Social ministry Lyrics: 1 All who love and serve your city, all who bear its daily stress, all who cry for peace and justice, all who curse and all who bless: 2 in your day of loss and sorrow, in your day of helpless strife, honor, peace, and love retreating, seek the Lord, who is your life. 3 In your day of wealth and plenty, wasted work and wasted play, call to mind the word of Jesus, "I must work while it is day." 4 For all days are days of judgment, and the Lord is waiting still, drawing near to all who spurn him, off'ring peace from Calv'ry's hill. 5 Risen Lord, shall yet the city be the city of despair? Come today, our judge, our glory; be its name, "The Lord is there!" Scripture: Jeremiah 29:7 Used With Tune: CHARLESTOWN
