From glory unto glory! Be this our joyous song

Author: F. R. Havergal Hymnal: The Church Hymnal #205a (1898) Meter: 13.13.13.14 Topics: The New Year; New Year; Processionals New Year Lyrics: 1 From glory unto glory! Be this our joyous song; As on the King's own highway, We bravely march along. From glory unto glory! O word of stirring cheer, As dawns the solemn brightness of another glad New Year. 2 From glory unto glory! What great things He hath done, What wonders He hath shown us, what triumphs He hath won! From glory unto glory! What mighty blessings crown The lives for which our Lord laid His own so freely down! 3 The fullness of His blessing encompasseth our way; The fullness of His promises crowns every brightening day; The fullness of His glory is beaming from above, While more and more we learn to know the fullness of His love. 4 And closer yet and closer the golden bonds shall be, Uniting all who love our Lord in pure sincerity; And wider yet and wider shall the circling glory glow, As more and more are taught of God that mighty love to know. 5 Oh, let our adoration for all that He hath done, Peal out beyond the stars of God, while voice and life are one; And let our consecration be real, deep, and true: Oh, even now our hearts shall bow, and joyful vows renew. 6 Now onward, ever onward, from strength to strength we go, While grace for grace abundantly shall from His fullness flow, To glory's full fruition, from glory's foretaste here, Until His very presence crown our happiest New Year. Amen. Languages: English Tune Title: BERTHOLD

New Year

Hymnal: A Collection of Hymns and Prayers, for Public and Private Worship #416 (1845) Topics: Special Occasions The New Year First Line: While, with ceaseless course, the sun Lyrics: 1 While, with ceaseless course, the sun Hasted through the former year, Many souls their race have run, Never more to meet us here! Fix'd in an eternal state, They have done with all below; We a little longer wait; But how little, none can know. 2 As the winged arrow flies, Speedily the mark to find; As the lightning from the skies Darts, and leaves no trace behind: Swiftly thus our fleeting days Bear us down life’s rapid stream. Upward, Lord, our spirits raise; All below is but a dream. 3 Thanks for mercies past receive; Pardon of our sins renew; Teach us, henceforth, how to live With eternity in view. Bless thy word to young and old, Grant us, Lord, thy peace and love; And when life’s short tale is told, May we dwell with thee above! Languages: English

Come, let us anew our journey pursue, Roll round with the year

Author: C. Wesley Hymnal: The Voice of Praise #994 (1873) Meter: Irregular Topics: The New Year; New-Year Resolves Lyrics: 1 Come, let us anew our journey pursue, Roll round with the year, And never stand still till the Master appear. His adorable will let us gladly fulfill, And our talents improve, By the patience of hope and the labor of love. 2 Our life is a dream; our time, as a stream, Glides swiftly away, And the fugitive moment refuses to stay. The arrow is flown--the moment is gone; The millennial year Rushes on to our view, and eternity's here. 3 Oh that each, in the day of his coming, may say,-- I have fought my way through; I have finished the work thou didst give me to do. Oh that each from his Lord may receive the glad word,-- Well and faithfully done! Enter into my joy, and sit down on my throne. Scripture: James 4:14

My flying years, time urges on

Hymnal: A Collection of Hymns and Prayers, for Public and Private Worship #414 (1845) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Special Occasions The New Year Lyrics: 1 My flying years, time urges on; What's mortal must decay; My friends--my youth's companions gone, Can I expect to stay? 2 Can I exemption please, when death Projects his awful dart? Can med'cine then prolong my breath? Or virtue shield my heart? 3 Oh! no--then smooth, O Lord, the hour; On thee my hope depends: Support me with almighty pow'r, While dust to dust descend. 4 Then shall my soul, O gracious God! (While angels guard the way,) With rapture haste to thine abode, To dwell in endless day. 5 Thro' heaven, howe'er remote the bound, Thy love I'll then proclaim: And join the choir of saints that sound Their great Redeemer's name. All Beautiful the March of Days

Author: Frances W. Wile Hymnal: The New Century Hymnal #434 (1995) Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Topics: Seasons The New Year Lyrics: 1 All beautiful the march of days, as seasons come and go; the hand that shaped the rose has formed the crystal of the snow, Has sent the silver frost of heaven, the flowing waters sealed, And laid a silent loveliness on hill and wood and field. 2 O’er brilliant fields of sparkling snow the radiant morns unfold; The solemn splendors of the night burn brightly through the cold. Life mounts in every throbbing vein, love deepens 'round the hearth, And clearer sounds the angel hymn, "Good will and peace on earth." 3 O you from whose unfathomed law the year in beauty flows, yourself the splendid vision seen in crystal and in rose, The passing days with grace declare, and passing nights proclaim, In ever-changing words of light, the wonder of your name.
