There's a Wideness in God's Mercy

Author: Frederick W. Faber, 1814-1863 Hymnal: Journeysongs (3rd ed.) #712 (2012) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Scripture: Psalm 103 Lyrics: 1 There’s a wideness in God’s mercy Like the wideness of the sea; There’s a kindness in his justice Which is more than liberty. There is plentiful redemption In the blood that has been shed; There is joy for all the members In the sorrows of the Head. 2 For the love of God is broader Than the measures of the mind, And the heart of the Eternal Is most wonderfully kind. If our love were but more simple We should take him at his word, And our lives would be thanksgiving For the goodness of our Lord. 3 Troubled souls, why will you scatter Like a crowd of frightened sheep? Foolish hearts, why will you wander From a love so true and deep? There is welcome for the sinner And more graces for the good; There is mercy with the Savior, There is healing in his blood. Topics: Healing; Love of God for Us; Praise; Rites of the Church Penance (Reconciliation); Rites of the Church Rite of Anointing (Care of the Sick); Salvation; Sin; The Liturgical Year Lent (Sundays and Weekdays); The Liturgical Year The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Languages: English; Latin Tune Title: IN BABILONE

There's a wideness in God's mercy

Author: Frederick William Faber (1814-1863) Hymnal: Ancient and Modern #806 (2013) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Scripture: Psalm 103:12-13 Lyrics: 1 There's a wideness in God's mercy like the wideness of the sea; there's a kindness in his justice which is more than liberty. There is no place where earth's sorrows are more felt than up in heaven; there is no place where earth's failings have such kindly judgement given. 2 For the love of God is broader than the measure of our mind, and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. But we make his love too narrow by false limits of our own; and we magnify his strictness with a zeal he would not own. 3 There is plentiful redemption through the blood that has been shed; there is joy for all the members in the sorrows of the Head. There is grace enough for thousands of new worlds as great as this; there is room for fresh creations in that upper home of bliss. 4 If our love were but more simple, we should take him at his word; and our lives would be all gladness in the joy of Christ our Lord. Topics: Assurance; Atonement; God in grace and mercy; God Love of; Kindness; Proper 15 Year A; Proper 5 Year C; The Fourth Sunday before Advent Year B; The Second Sunday of Lent Year C Languages: English Tune Title: CORVEDALE

I Lay My Sins on Jesus

Author: Horatius Bonar Hymnal: Our Great Redeemer's Praise #498 (2022) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Scripture: Psalm 103:1-12 Lyrics: 1 I lay my sins on Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God; He bears them all, and frees us from the accursed load. I bring my guilt to Jesus, to wash my crimson stains white in His blood most precious, till not a spot remains. 2 I lay my wants on Jesus; all fullness dwells in Him. He heals all my diseases; He doth my soul redeem. I lay my griefs on Jesus, my burdens and my cares. He from them all releases, He all my sorrow shares. 3 I long to be like Jesus— meek, loving, lowly, mild; I long to be like Jesus, the Father's holy Child; I long to be with Jesus amid the heav'nly throng, to sing with saints His praises, to learn the angels' song.
